Farming, Balik Kampung!

The whole family went Bottle Tree Park to do farming. Yeah, there's a plot or a stretch of plantation belonged to the Ground Up Initiative (GUI)http://www.groundupinitiative.org/
We volunteered to help grow the herbs , veggies and plants there. Last Saturday we helped to do weeding. Shaun totally loved it. GUI's volunteer kept snapping his photo as he was such a lovely helper!

We shall be doing this every weekend, and water the herbs every Friday. Shaun is definitely the most excited one.

Meanwhile I would try to upload photos as I'm still figuring out where's the bluetooth driver to be installed in the pc.

Hey, we all should Balik Kampung and get your hands dirty!!

My favourite blog on Waldorf in the home

http://theparentingpassageway.com/2009/01/19/peaceful-life-with-a-three-year-old/

I think i'm pretty on track with the Waldorf's style of parenting Shaun at home. Just lacks of rythm, and singing ( ok, my singing sucks). And also knitting, puppeting and toymaking. Having said that, learning in progress now by first - doing research.

Okay, trying to get the Mother goose rhymes right into my head! Grateful that I have one of the Barney VCD on the Mother Goose rhymes and that's for me to watch haha.

Sandplay at Lower Seletar

Great to know that Shaun's fever did not come back yesterday and today, at least till now. But to be on the safe side, I did not bring him to playgroup, which he cheered out loud. Just wonder why did he hate going to playgroup so much?

So instead of going to the playgroup, i told him,

好!that's what he said. OK, wait till tomorrow and see whether he 兑现承诺。

So off we went to the sandplay at the fitness area at Lower Seletar. He was so happy and cheerful. So much different from himself when we go to the PG. I thought he should have fun at the PG since there's so much activities like singing, dancing and story telling?

Anyway, if tonight fever doesnt come back, i guess he has fully recovered, battling off the virus! Am glad that I got over the challenge , as it was really quite challenging for gancheong mum like me to see his fever spiking over 39 and yet, praying hard that this little warrior will 坚持到底,战胜病菌。

Hard time going to playgroup

Yesterday was school holiday , so Shaun did not go to playgroup. His fever was gone for the whole day but came back at night. *again, strange* He was 38.2 c when he agreed to let me stuck the thermometre under his armpit. Fed him honey water before zz.

This morning, no fever. Brought his school uniform out and he started saying
So distract him by letting him watch the playgroup CD hoping that he will want to go. He laughed and giggled when he saw interesting class activities, again i said, ok, let's go to 豆豆班now, again, 不要不要不要!

Ok, decided to ignore him and let him play for a while. Brought out my cake mixer to play. Subsequently changed him, without objection, phew. Told him that we are going to playgroup with 妹妹next door. Agreed, so off we went.

Brought him to toilet first before going into class. He was still happy until I told him , ok , Within seconds, eyes getting red, tears forming, and 不要 again. Teacher shut the door ( very hard hearted but that's the way they do it ) Soon, his cry getting softer and stopped.

Well, today is only the 3rd day to class. Think he is still not used to not seeing me around him. Hope he will like the teacher and friends there soon.

I think his fever was due to him crying too long ( first day) in air cond room. The room was really freezing cold!

Tonight, I hope no more fever. As I really have no idea why his fever come and go??

Fever

Friday 2 July 10

Couldnt remember when was Shaun's last fever , probably in March when he caught a flu. Nanny told me last Friday that he was feverish at 3pm plus when I fetched him back at 6pm. Wondered why she din call and tell me about that. Anyway, I brought him home, measured him and he was at 38.9 degree c. He looked sick to me because he looked tired. Quickly, made the orange grape juice for him.

15 grapes ( peeled and unseeded)
1 orange & 1/4 lemon( juice first, then add 15 grapes with the juices in blender and blend)

Gave him little bit of camu - camu too which is rich in Vit C.

I think 2 hours later, his fever was gone. *strange*. I used hot water and soaked organic green beans and used that water for making his bedtime milk. After his fever was gone, he was back actively jumping around and din want to sleep till quite late at night.

Saturday
No fever, fully recovered. I think I was careless and I forgot to let him drink additional water n let him munched on oreo ( given by aunty next door) and some cookies. He kept wanting to go out so I brought him out but it was soon starting to rain when we were walking half way to the central. We stopped and went back, luckily he agreed. The wind was so strong, think he caught some rain too and his shirt was too thin. This stupid mama did not do enough to protect dear son and should insist not to bring him out when he just recovered. Why so? Fever was back on Sunday.

Sunday
Fever was high at 39.3. Decided to let him stay at home instead of going to the Gym. He was still playing and eating ( appetite dropped though). But he knew that he was running a fever and I scolded him for eating too much biscuits, including the oreo. Anyway, made the High C juice for him again. Let him eat watermelon too, and lots of fluids throughout the day. Other than high C juice, also juice apple and carrots for him. Made him pasta for lunch, ate a fair bit which was good enough. For dinner, made him 5 grains porridge ( very soupy kind) as he needs lots of fluids. Had 2 bowls of runny porridge with 小白菜 and carrot, flavoured with miso. Gave him honey water too. He finally tucked in at 8pm, measured him and fever dropped to 38 +

Today
This morning, he woke up at 730 plus. First word every morning, not good morning or 早安which he used to say. It was 街街 or kai kai! He din want me to go to work every day. Anyway , fever was gone. Phew! Told nanny to monitor and see whether fever comes back. He refused to go nanny's house so I brought him to the park opposite for a while, then persuaded him to go nanny's place.

Just finished marketing. Will make carrot soup tonight plus some 小菜。made pumpkin soup for him but he din like it though, hehe.

Catch up on blogging

It has been a month since I last updated this blog. I have been so busy eventhough I have resigned from my work - last day on 11 June 10.

I cleaned each and every corner of the house, pack and unpack stuff, throwing old stuff, donating stuff, etc. But there is still lots more to go, but I could do it on my own pace, no hurry, :P

Why so busy still? Laundry, cooking, cleaning, and monitor the market. Yes, started trading already, hopefully can see returns soon.

And i'm glad that I made so much good food for hubby and dear son. Yeh , Shaun loves them , which made me happy n contented.

Now I juice for him every morning, and make veg soup for him whenever I have the ingredients and is free to make. I just want him to have all the nutritious food.

Story telling

http://www.waldorfcurriculum.com/Index%20page/Parent%20Resources/storytelling.html
Finish the work that has gone on before, probably practice work, or drawing, clean up the tools and store the book away, say aloud a little end-of-main-lesson verse….like this…

Clap clap clap
Tap tap tap
My work is done,
I have done my best
And now my hands Can take a rest!

Then the child sits down with hands at rest. Ring a small bell to signal the start of story time. Do not talk! Put out the special candle with the pretty matchbox and the candle snuffer, onto the table, perhaps on a special table mat or woven mat that is used just for this purpose. Settle yourself down in a seated position, gather your thoughts, light the candle and say a verse if you like….although the verse is more common in the K world…..and start………………..Once upon a time………..at the end of the story, take a breath, rest a moment and do not rush it, and ring the tiny bell again and the candle can be snuffed out (come up with a system for doing this so that there is no sibling arguments, make it clear at the start of the day, who is to do this, make a chart, etc etc.)

Waldorf at home

Months ago, I was delighted to have found the waldort-inspired childcare in Kovan and decided that I should bring my child there. Today, I was disappointed that my hubby wasnt supportive with my decision to ferry Shaun to and fro. We knew that we had to compromise.. so we kept brainstorming... while i kept feeding him the benefits of waldorf education.. then he seemed to learn more and asked whether he was depriving him from having all the "good-s" at WHolechild as compared to loitering and watching tv at nanny's place? I said "Of course!!"

"Why not you learn the philosophy yourself and used it at home? Then we dont need to travel down to Kovan.." hubby said.

"一言惊醒梦中人" ahh

But we will still stick to the plan for sending him to playgroup - just to socialise and to have some fun. I can have some time to prepare his meal and do marketing too.
Back to the education. So yes!! I'm taking up the challenge now, learn from scratch! Am researching on home education inspired by waldorf steiner. I have 2 weeks to cover as much as possible, so that when July comes, I can be with home with Shaun, doing activities which I learned. Those activities are all so practical too- doing housechores! We will be baking bread adn cake together, and I will be getting some flower pots to plant own herbs or veg ( capsicum perhaps?)

Till then, will update what I have learned and apply!

Salad sandwich everyday!

I read much about the goodness of eating raw, so I have determined to make Shaun eat some raw veg everyday. He doesn’t like salad ( other than raw fruits), so I guess it’s because the lettuce or alfafa are too big or long to his liking. He always pull out the alfafa sprout or beansprout and said “毛” haha!! So I got an idea, I cut or mince the alfafa sprout and lettuce or Japanese cucumber till tiny and spread on his bread, together with other stuff he likes , such as fried egg, avocado, cheese. I bought a sandwich maker – sandmate from BP, to make sandwich for him everyday. The mould is good , but it’s a bit big, cant really fit in all the breads here, except a few types which are larger in piece. Anyway, it’s good to have this so that the fillings wont drop out when he is holding and eating the bread himself.

And yes!! He eats up everything, the alfafa, the cucumber, or the lettuce.

I also add lettuce when I blend fruit juice. I did that several times already and he had all! I juice lettuce with apple, carrot and grapes.

Junk = crackers, Ice cream, cookies/biscuits( very sweet!)

Oklah, to strike a balance, we insist to cook his porridge if we are dining out. He will have second round of eating when we eat out anyway.

Rashes update 2

His outbreak of rashes started on late Saturday, SUnday full blown , Monday subsided a bit.

Monday was a happy day for Shaun as ah yi , yi zhang and gua ma brought him to North POint Splash Park!! He had so much fun running around, playing iwth the water. And his rashes all disappeared, so strange. The pimply rashes were still there but not red at all. maybe because of the cooling water. When he was back home, mum let him soaked in bath tub with a green bean water and bamboo salt water. A little bit too warm to touch, so his face turned red again. Nevertheless, he was still feeling itchy so we diligently applied calendula cream all over his rashes.

Tuesday, we went back to KL!! And his redness were all gone, he no longer felt the itch. A little itchy once a while only. However, his arms left all the scars from his scratches, and all the pimply rough rashes were still on his face, although no more redness. And it din bother him at all, still actively playing and felt very happy running around, and exploring my home in KL< ehhe.

Today, I'm going to bring him to see PD, to confirm what rashes this is. Why bring to PD eventhough he has fully recovered? Because I want to know whether this is Measle? German measle/rubella?? or fifth disease? or just simply heat rash?? If they were measle or rubella, then he can opt this vaccine out liao - as he has not had his MMR vaccination yet.

Going to see Dr. Khoo at SS2 - 70 year old PD who saw me when I was a kid!! hehe.

I have lots of doubts because he has no fever, no other symptom at all. Other than his flu episode which happened 3 weeks ago, which were so mild that he recovered by his own. I will tell Dr. Khoo about these later.

================
Back from PD. He said they were viral rashes. So just give anti-histamine to stop the itch and some oilment to apply on his scratches. Dr say it's nothing serious.

Back to KL!!

We started our journey at 12pm, reached Tangkak near to 2pm. Had lunch and visited my cousin's baby. We departed to Melaka at around 4pm, to my brother-in-law's hometown. We had great dinner with BIL's family at a famous local restaurant. Ordered 5 dishes, RM 135 only! What a cheap and good deal. We brought putu piring ( very nice!!!) and departed to KL. Reached KL around 10pm.

Shaun was very guai throughout the journey!! He only wore pamper from his trip from SG to Tangkak, and from Melaka to KL. Other short term journey was diaperless!

Last weekend he was also diaperless when we went kai kai! I let him pee before we departed from home, and went toilet again after we reached our destination, then asked him whether he wanted to pee again before we departed home.

No failure /bocor at all!! Good job Shaun!

Think I have successfully toilet trained him. As for his nap time/bedtime, i will still wear diaper for him la, until one fine day when he wakes up dry... hheeh

Rashes Outbreak - Fifth Disease? (Erythema infectiosum)

Oh no, after reading up more about hives, Shaun's rashes din quite look like a hives, and it actually seems to look more like Fifth Disease instead!!

because his cheek was so red .. just like what i saw here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythema_infectiosum
http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/fifth.html

And i read from another site that the rashes outbreak happened after mild fever/cold. And yes! few weeks ago he has got mild fever, not even a fever cuz it was less than 37.5 degree. And he has got runny nose.

So, is Shaun really having fifth disease/Erythema infectionsum????????

Actually I was quite skeptical with the Dr's diagnose yesterday as he din really look carefully on Shaun's rash and said "HIVES" liao.

Rashes Outbreak - urticaria(hives)? heat rash?

My darling started having some rashes on his neck on his back on Sat after his nap. Then at night, I saw some red spots popping up on his face. I was very concerned as I have never seen this before. On Sunday morning, he woke up with rashes outbreak all over his face, both hands, and starting on his legs. It looked worse than his Roseola time, cuz they were red and looked like in patches, and this time it was itchy!!!

He was still active, eating well. Rashes din bother him when he was busy doing something or playing. But when he quiets down, he started to scratch. Very poor thing when I saw this as I scared he scratched till his skin peel then when he came in contact with water he would sure cry.

I brought him to see GP, Dr said it was hives. But it’s not contagious.

I think hard what might be the allergen. Exposed to sun? I brought him to playground on Saturday morning, and he perspired a lot, but also his cheek was super red, like got burned under the sun like that. When we walked back home, we passed by lots of trees where he picked up something, could be from the tree, and threw to the bin. At around 3pm, he ate lots of raspberries and grapes ( keep asking somemore). He napped at 4pm and woke up scratching his back, and I saw many bumps!! Looked like insect bites. Then the outbreak started off since then.

Although he was still fine, but being an anxious mum, I always got worried. Yesterday his cheek were so red and looked swollen, my heart was very pain lor. Anyway , we had great dinner at Vegsenz and he ate a lot! He didnt scratch at all. Then when we were in the car on our way back, he started scratching here and there. I kept blowing and helped him scratch. My heart was very pain! He was such a good boy, and never cried and threw tantrum although the rashes were terribly itchy. How I wish the itchiness were passed to me. When we were back home, he was busy playing, sweeping floor, I knew his rashes would flare up in no time cuz he would perspire and be heated up. So I quickly switched on the air cond. At night, during bed time, he scratched then fell asleep. At 4am, he woke up to scratch too. I felt so terrible. So today I asked my mum to bring him to TCM at Yishun. The nanny said he could be very heaty so it was expelled out in the form of hives. I’m not sure, wanna seek TCM’s advice then.

Shaun, you have been a very brave and good boy! Mummy knows that you are feeling just fine just that the rashes itch but it still makes mummy’s heart pain. Itchy Rashes, pls go away ok?

Speech Development

Shaun has improved tremendously over the weekend and I’m not so worried now.

Now he can say everything after us, even singing. But that is saying after us.

As for his own saying , now, he counts 1,2 and 3 clearly. 4 and 5 not so clear yet. Other than many words that he can say by himself, he can form a better sentence now.

Previously , he will say mama, nei nei, meaning mama makes milk. Now, he can say, papa , makes nei nei (ie requesting papa to make milk)

I heard him saying this too, aunty where? = where is aunty? first time saying "where" yesterday.

He was asking for tou2 many times yesterday, and I finally sorted out that he was asking for his pillow ( zhen3 tou2). He is still omitting some words out hehe.

Impressed, impressed, impressed! Waldorf-inspired preschool - Whole Child Nurture Childcare WCNC

I have so much to say, where should I start??

I seconded a mummy whose gal is attending WCNC now - Whold Child Nurture was a gem of a find! I'm glad I finally found it!

Paid a visit to Whole Child Nurture Childcare at Jalan Hock Chye this morning. Very fruitful trip eventhough I only spent 1 hour+ there.

This is not a "common" childcare! I have a very warmth feeling when I saw the kids there, they were all so cheerful, happy and contented. ALso the natural setting of the centre ( I rather not say centre or school as it really is a HOME for the kids) and kids are welcomed with LOVE. It is a true home away from home.

Steiner's approach in how children should be respected and nurtured into adulthood. Steiner says, " Receive a child in reverence", to recognise the child as a spiritual and creative being with his/her own talents and purpose in this world.

I see that this fast placed singapore has long lost of all these view. "We pressurize our children to compete academically, or coddle them materially, thinking that this is good for their welfare. "( message from Founder's Joyce Lye) In fact, the Curriculum here follows the physical, mental and emotional development of a child.

I believe very much that the holistic aspect of Waldorf education will nurture my child's willingness to learn and be compassion.

I will scan the materials I got from the WCNC and share with everyone. Meanwhile, will just pen down the highlights from the brochure from kampung senang on WCNC:

1. Natural Setting - OUTDOOR - herb food garden, large sand pit, wooden swings, wooden pit. Classrooms are cheery and decorated with soft rainbow drapes, natural wooden tables, no chemicals, no plastic materials. Wooden floor - no air cond! no carpet! No TV, no dvd player, no computers! The equipment for play and use ( like water painting) are made of natural untreated material. The person in charge told me the colors are made from natural sources like vegetables.

2. Motherly and Gentle Teachers - Gentle approach in everything, teaching manners from routine, very home-based learning

"Gentleness is the key to getting children to behave lovingly to one another because Dr Steiner taught that:

In this first period of a child's life ( under 7) he or she should be surrounded by GOODNESS. The second period ( 7 to 14 years) should be surrounded by GOODNESS and BEAUTY while the third period 9 15 to 21) they should be surrounded by TRUTH.

No harsh words, no screaming or shouting. Not even a gentle smack for wrong doing.

Teachers are the role models, be it in their interaction with adults, play with children or the completion of chores like the making of toys or washing of dishes.

3. Nutritious and Healthy Organic Food and Drink - Fruit juices, brown rice nutty milk, filtered water, rainbow salad, wholemeal breads and cookies made from kids themselves!! impressed!!

I witnessed the kids waiting orderly for lunch to be served, and a kid helping to set up the table by putting a cloth on each seats. Then teacher will serve the brown rice dishes , and all kids eat by themselves. Oh yea, everyone sings the appreciative songs before meal time!

When it is time for breakfast, children, busy in their world of imagination are still at play. Teachers in gentle tones, urge them along, singing:

It's time to put the toys away
Everybody- do your share
pack the blocks and fold the cloths
keep them neatly on the shelves
and put the toys away

Children gather around the dining table, laid out with brown rice milk, rainbow salads and cut fruits. Eagerly, they sing their gratitude:

Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank ou for the birds that sing-a-ling-a-ling
Thank you for everything.

There will be every song before and after the activities.

4. The role of imagination - Free play and creative play are fully encouraged. Children fantasise, explore and discover 'answers' through experiment and experiences. At WCNC, we strive to develop in children the need for imagination, truth and responsibility. Child initated play and experiential learning are encouraged . Through play, young children learn to interact socially with their peers and others, develop language skills, recognize and solve problems. and discover their human intellectual potential. Play helps children makde sense of and find their place in the world. Everyday of childhoood should be a day for play.

5. Keeping to Ryhthm and Routine - Makes for secure, healthy and happy child. They are nurtured through a time-table of free play, focused activity ( eg story telling with puppets), snack or meal time and rest time. For music and movement, it's all singing , but there's no TV or player ! all natural singing by everyone.

Active play times like constructive play, dramatic play, sand play and water play are considered "out-breathing".

Focused activity like circle time, story time, meal time are considered "in-breathing".

6. Eco-friendly DIY wooden play set - Outdoor play set in eco-friendly wood ( from sustainable forests) was specially brought in from Australia. Unlike fixed plastic play equipment, this wooden playset is specially deisnged so children as young as 4 years can lift the ladders and boards and assemble and dis-assemble it. The swings and even tricycle are also made of eco-friendly wood.

Kids love to role play by imitating adults so here we have safe, child-size tools for them to water the garden or help mum sweep and iron.

Baking and maths
Teachers help children measure water, use organic flour, roll out dough and shape into cookies.. all fun and basic to learning maths

CONCLUSION - Freedom and natural- Unlike common Childcare Centre, we only need to buy 1 set of uniform, which is to be worn every Friday only. Why? Because every Friday is a PICNIC day at the park nearby! Other than this, kids wear their own clothes, bring their own bottles and their own bags. Kids ( 2 to 4 years old) do not go through rigid training academically. They are not pressurized with ABCs. Instead, kids learn through play and I'm glad Moral education is emphasized here. This is what I'm looking for! Kids at K1 and K2 will learn writing (academic) and especially 弟子规. For Shaun's age, they will make their own bread and buns, painting, action-filled songs, and story -telling. Outdoor games will be planting and leaf pruning, sand-play, games, trampoline, water play, picnic at garden, etc.

I know I had made a right choice. :)

Attention seeking boy

Still, holding back on the plan for #2, until Shaun is ready.

Yesterday my friend from KL was in SG for her business trip. She came home for dinner, so I thought it was great that I could catch up with her as we havnt met for 1 year plus already. Who knows this young chap kept disturbing me and wanted me to do everything with him although the grandma and daddy were around.

I dont want this to happen if I have a newborn later.

Meanwhile , i'm going to visit WHole Child Nurture CEntre tomorrow. Will update by then.

Waldorf -Steiner Education

I'm very inspired by Dr. Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf Education, who believed that children should receive a balanced education, one that not only engages the intellect but the whole child - head, heart and hands.

I'm therefore looking high and low for Waldorf preschool for Shaun in SG. Apparently, there are only 2 options in SG -

1) http://www.waldorfsingapore.com/education.html
2) http://www.kg-senang.org.sg/whole_child/index.htm

I saw the list from here - for other asian countries. http://kampungkasih.blogspot.com/search/label/Waldorf-Steiner%20Preschool

I really like the education and what it advocates. I reckon that there is a need to kids below 7 years old to develop physically first before developing their brain, which is in contrast with what is widely advocating here in SG. So when a kid has a healthy body, he can then develop his brain , creatively. Quoted from http://www.waldorfsingapore.com/aboutus.html

" For the first seven years, Waldorf early childhood education aims to work with, rather than against, the child's natural inclination to be active. Children are taught using imitation and example as educational approaches rather than verbal instruction. The child's learning experiences and well-being are supported through the use of rhythm and repetition. Sufficient time, space and equipment are allowed for creative play to unfold. The impact of sensory experience in early childhood is considered vital. There are no academics before P1 and parents are asked to limit exposure to TV, computer, or video games."

I like it when it says "No text book, no TV, no exam". It's all learning thru play from handmade toys, all DIY, all creative play, all kinds of hands on activities and all natural stuff. It's in line with my believe, and how Shaun is being brought up - for instance, eating organic natural food and recover via natural healing path.

I stumbled upon a blog on Waldorf Preschool in Kota Kemuninghttp://montessorimum.com/?p=4403. The curriculum is that

1. children learn through imitation and hands-on.
2. toys are made from natural materials like wood, where no plastic is involved.
3. organic food is provided
4. No exams, no homework, no text book, no writing.
5. Activities include circle time, story telling/acting, watercolor painting, gardening, nature walk, toy making, art and craft, baking, cooking, imaginative play.

Chinese Treatment for Cough

Thanks Xiao Yun, for sharing this info. Mummies whose kids who often cough, pls dont hesitate to refer to the below.

flu bug episode 2

Just when I mentioned that he recovered the next day he struck the flu, I realised that he wasnt completely recovered and he was still having mild runny nose with sticky mucus. Maybe he did not have enough rest as I still brought him to Mygym on Thursday(make -up class), Saturday(free play), and Sunday( normal class). Saw some kids coughing away in the class. But I thought, yea, he will be exposed to this kind of environment sooner or later especially when I am enrolling him to playgroup soon.

I wasnt hardworking enough to make the juices for him as I myself caught the flu bug from him too. Anyway, yesterday he started to cough. I will monitor him for the time being, as the cough did not bother him yet (*finger crossed*) I made "zhi3 ke4 tang1 for him. (urgh!! cant type chinese here)

This morning, I made another round of zhi3 ke4 tang1 for him, and also asked the nanny to make lemon + honey for him.

I will monitor his condition and might make the black bean soup or lotus soup for him tonight.

But I got to get the ginger first!! :P

Little soldier fighting the flu bug

Shaun caught flu last Sunday , maybe from Northpoint splashpark which I brought him on Saturday. Sunday he started having runny nose but was still very active. His mucus became thick with yellow/greenish type. So I think it was virus infection. Very quickly I gave him lots of fruits like kiwi. I gave him Manuka active 12, blended apple and blueberry, + lemon for him, and gave him echinaccea (added into his milk) for 3 times. Then on that same day, he was a bit feverish. Measured and it was only 37.3. So I thought ok, he started to fight the virus liao. Gave him some Korean bamboo salt diluted in his plain water. And also lemon juice. Also sponged him when he was sleeping and made green bean soup and Chinese big barley, to substitute water for his milk. At night, he pooped. Very black and hard poo and smelly!! I think he was damn heaty!!

Next day on Monday, fever was gone. Runny nose was gone. So he actually recovered within 2 days.

So I think echinaccea played a part too?? Other than the other natural remedies that I imposed on.

Well done boy! Keep it up!!

Oh, my potty

Shaun has been toilet trained for pretty long already since last year, which means he would run to the toilet to pee/poo. However, all these while he refused to sit on his potty. I have bought him 4 different shapes and sizes of potty, including the traditional round "tam tong" but he simply refused it. So where did he do his business then?? on the toilet floor!! Unless I got to hold him standing on my toilet.

Last week, there's great improvement. He suddenly wanted to pee and poo in the potty! Good job boy!

Busy , Busy , Busy

I realized that I have not been posting for 1 month already. I have been so busy , at work ( so stressed up!!) , and at home. I seriously need to consider either getting a maid or quit my job. I’m ecstatic when come to the thoughts of quitting current job and run own business!!

Organic food eatery with healthy baby/toddler food?

Yeah, I like to have own organic vegetarian food business, which provides baby/toddler healthy meals. You know , i have so much ideas and had worked hard enough to prepare good vegetarian food for my boy. The result is evident. Healthy and fit. Even if he catches a cold or have fever, he will recover on its own through natural remedies/food within a few days. Self healing is the most powerful remedy. I have been working so hard on it, result is proven GOOD, and it's worth my effort. Nothing will deter me to continue doing this. It's my interest, my hobby, and why not I turn it into my own business ? But it’s tough, so it remains a dream for the time being. I hope it will be a dream-comes-true for me one day.. Feeling very exhausted while I’m typing this in the midst of paper work in office.. really drowning in office… When can I be boss myself?

okay, so much so about my stressful corporate world n dream, should write something abt dear boy.

MRC playgroup
I have made up my mind to let Shaun join the MRC 3 hour daily programme at Khatib Central. He will start school next term 22 Mar. I hope he will enjoy it! If he doesn’t wanna go to school, I will pull him out. I just want him to have fun and have friends, as I find him to be so restless and bored at home.

Independence at 24 months
He is at a stage where he wants to do everything himself. What does he do himself now?

1. Eating, no need to feed him liao. He can finish one big bowl of porridge or noodle soup by himself, rejecting my help!
2. pooing ( he wants to close the door somemore!)
3. Peeing ( he will pull down his pant and pee in toilet)
4. Bathing ( yea, he will bathe himself and wipe himself, wrap himself in towel and come look 4 me after that)

New Generation of Children’s Health Care

This article is a good one. CHeck it out http://lapislazulilight.com/Founder/Index_Lapis_News_From_Founder_Article_26.html

A friend of mine who lives in a big city recently observed that her friends’ children are suffering from skin allergies, red rashes, and problems of the respiratory tract. I had a chance to ask Dr. Philip Incao about it, who is a pediatrician. He thinks that children of the current generation are facing a major health crisis, the main causes are overuse of antibiotics and excessive vaccinations. Dr. Incao is often invited to the Waldorf Schools to speak with parents and teachers about children’s health. The following are the main points highlighted in his speech to them:

How to treat illnesses related to inflammation?

The best doctors are Dr. Diet, Dr. Quiet and Dr. Merryman. Inflammation is the most common ailment in childhood. ‘Infection’ is not an appropriate description as it assumes that pathogenic bacteria are the source of the illness. This is a misunderstanding. We are constantly in contact with germs. Our bodies also contain bacteria, yet we are sick only occasionally. Why do we fall sick only at certain occasions? From birth till death, our bodies are growing and changing constantly. Health is the balance between mind and body. Childhood is body’s fastest period of growth, where the body goes through many major changes. Old cells die and become waste. The immune system breakdowns the old cells, then fever and inflammation digests them. Germs are not the cause of illnesses; they are merely dependant on the nourishment of the waste products of the old cells.

Doctor Diet

When the body is purging toxins, it is best not to have to digest too much food. Avoid food with high protein when one is down with acute illnesses. The patient can take vegetable soup, herbal teas, vegetable and fruit juices. Beverages should be taken at or above room temperature. Fruits, cooked vegetables and grains can be taken.

Doctor Quiet

During illnesses, children require a quiet, harmonious and peaceful environment. It is best that parents comfort and support the child calmly. When a child is sick, it is often the best opportunity for strengthening parent-child bonding and communication.

Doctor Merryman
Fever should not be viewed as an unhealthy and dangerous bodily reaction. It is a message from the body. It is the body’s reaction in its process of purging toxins and foreign substances. Studies in recent years showed that anti-fever medications repress the immune system and increases toxins in the body. They are actually harmful to the body as they may protract or even complicate the illness. Many parents have great fear about fever. Towards such great unknown force, it is natural to be fearful. However, inflammation and fever are healing energies. Do not regard flu or fever as disturbances, and feel frustrated, worried or anxious. We can consider them as the function of a deeper wisdom. A positive attitude can help in quicker recovery. Dr. Incao has a young patient of 5 years old. At the most critical moment of his illness, he told his mother, “Don’t worry, mama, I am just growing.” All the growth in nature requires the initial earth loosening, then fertilization. This is likened to the fever and inflammation of a child.

750cc water
1 piece old ginger

5g brown sugar

Boil ingredient A for 30 minutes
Mix ingredient B in cold water. Add to A after 30 minutes. Bring it to boil again for a little while , then turn off the heat. Serve warm

Yes , the final Molars are out

The final molars are out- nanny saw it already. 4 biggest one yet most painful one. Now I understand how teething a painful experience it was for the kid and for the mummy ( haha)

Yes, he indeed was teething, that explained his little runny nose and my horrible nights for the past 3 days. For runny nose which did not disturb him – I only gave him lemon and honey. As for terrible mid night struggle, no remedies, but to just bear the “pain” with him. LOL. Most tiring part was he wanted me to be the “tree” while he being the koala bear clinging on me, not letting me sit. Must stand ok!! He was passing the agony to me in such way huh. Like back to baby’s time..

Teething - Final Molars?

Shaun drove me crazy on Sunday. Daddy bought him to OCC to play the whole morning. He came back home in the afternoon and started behaving STRANGLY. He threw tantrum on every single thing which was not his usual self. He scared me when he lied on the sofa and cried pitifully, like groaning in pain or what which was not like the usual cry. Then at night he woke up at 1am , struggling to fall asleep till 4am. My sleep got seriously disrupted and I started to feel giddy,.. And early Monday morning I decided to sleep at home, from 8am to 11am. Then felt giddy, ate something and started to burp, lots of gas in my stomach, felt like vomiting. Went to see doc and doc said I felt giddy due to FATIGUE, low blood sugar level. Cuz I was working (house chore, cook+ attending to clingy shaun) too much for the past few days at home and had a crazy Sunday afternoon till night attending to unusual shaun.

I’m glad that he is back to usual self the next day, so I just wonder whether he was teething? Cuz he pointed finger into his mouth, crying pitifully like in pain. And acted strangely.
